AT A DISTANCE…

Autor del poema: Delmira Agustini Translation by Alejandro Cáceres
Your widow life will adorn that day in jewels... 13
In the wild charm of the village 9
Your arcane profile was a wound; 10
Unusual, alarming, it suggested 10
The enamel of a precious gem 9
Upon a mountainous breast. 7
Through the mouth of the open window sighed 11
All the orchard in bloom, and the sunny room 10
Was itself all the village; 8
Remember?... Upon me was projected, 10
More mortal than your shadow on the wall, 11
Your solemn sorrow of one gone astray... 12
Your hands, elongated by grasping toward fate, 12
All pale by trying to shroud dreams, 7
Seemed to touch me from a distance... 10
Your eyes were an infinite path 11
And new moons grew out below your eyes; 10
In only one kiss we became old... 10
—Oh, kiss!... flower of four petals... two of knowledge 13
And two illumined by innocence… 10
The chalice an abyss, enrapturing and somber.— 13
By a miracle of melancholy, 8
Marble or brass I shattered in your hand 11
Spilling my spirit, like a pomander of essence. 14
Your widowed life will adorn that day in jewels... 14
My nostalgia has painted your Wagnerian profile 13
Upon the tremendous veil of absence. 11
